Just demote him already, and or let him drag BioWare down like he's been doing since 2011.ATTENTION: You are on old.reddit.

I'm not joking, I think Mac Walters is the fucking James Wan of game writers. I just find it impossible to like Mac Walters knowing how much he has dragged the quality down for the continuation of the franchise. Let's just pretend the throughline for all 3 games has been about organics and synthetics all along. No instead, let's just bring up Organics vs Synthetics at the 11th hour and pretend the story hadn't already addressed that.

The idea of Dark Energy as the throughline for the trilogy is that it's about "Mass Effect", the Mass Relays and the biotic energy they bring, and the Reapers that made them, all stuck in some nasty cycle trying to figure out how to avoid polluting space further and avoiding the "Big Crunch" (A reverse big-bang, according to Drew), but apparently that was too wild for Casey and Mac. He only worked on the secondary drafts on ME2's story and that's probably even part of why ME2 has the least important chapter in the trilogy, because they were just working with "ideas" that Drew Karpyshyn made before deciding to leave, and nobody decided what to make of them and then decided they didn't want to continue working on his "Dark Energy" concept, even though Mac now here today sits and says "of course Dark Energy is central to Mass Effect".

As long as it's "cool" he'll like it and that's the approach he took to drafting ME3 which is the only game where he was really the Lead Writer. So how on earth was he first in line to be the new Lead Writer? Considering he and Casey excluded the other writers from the ending of ME3 I have all kinds of ideas that it really just was nepotism and other kinds of unfair managment and I would argue that the recent articles about BioWare suggests they had such kinds of immature management styles at play.Īnd the video today just shows to me again that, regardless of how much he'll sit there and say "wow, I'm so happy people care so much," you can just tell that he personally doesn't get excited by the actual world-building of Mass Effect or the details of the stories he wrote for it. The universal prestige of merely attending the academy helps to restrain trainees from taking excessive risks in pursuit of higher honors.Īlthough ICT qualification by itself does not guarantee higher rank, those officers who are able to complete the program are typically well suited to senior leadership positions. There is little shame in failing an N course-the training is so extreme that even qualifying for N1 elevates an officer to a position of respect. N7 is the only ICT designation that may be worn on field or dress uniforms. If the trainee survives these scenarios in "admirable and effective fashion," he or she finally receives the coveted N7 designation. The highest grade of training, N6, provides actual combat experience in conflict zones throughout the galaxy. Subsequent courses-N2 through N6-are often held off-planet and include instruction in zero-G combat, military free-fall (parachuting), jetpack flight, combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics, and frontline trauma care for human and alien biology. Trainees who do well are awarded an internal designation of N1 and are invited to return. Initially, candidates train for more than 20 hours per day, leading small combat teams through hostile terrain with little sleep or food. The Interplanetary Combatives Academy, sometimes called "N-School" or "the villa," recruits officers from every branch of Earth's militaries to partake in grueling courses at Vila Militar in Rio de Janeiro. Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) is the Systems Alliance's premier school for leadership and combat expertise.
